About Jason Wheeler

Profile

Jason Wheeler was born on either the North or South island of New Zealand . His love of the mountains and adventure began early in life when at the tender age of seven when he climbed Mt Canlaon in the Philipines he then spent years scampering to the tops of various volcanoes, venturing across the glaciers of Northland, and rappelling off the rugged cliffs of the Simpson Desert as a kid with the encouragement of his grandma, mum, uncle, or maybe it was his best friend. This love of the mountains, outdoor sport, and lush, green forests brought him across the oceans to the beautiful west of Canada where mountains stretch as far as the eye can see and dream. He now resides in Vancouver where he is in an ideal spot to take advantage of rock, ice and alpine playgrounds of the great north and is only a short hop from incredible climbing in the Canadian Rockies. He teaches rock and ice courses for the Alpine Club of Canada and the BC Mountaineers Club, and has a reputation for being an incredibly patient, funny, and tall teacher, not to mention generous with sharing his time, skills, and Tim Tams with his friends south of the CAN/US border. He is also an expert at heckling his climbing students into trying harder projects than they anticipated they could send, which, ironically, makes them more confident in their skills. It is rumored that Jason taught MacGuyver everything he knows.
