This past Saturday marked the 4th Annual VertFest uphill/downhill race at Alpental Ski Area benefiting the Friends of the Northwest Weather and Avalanche Center. With a record breaking number of competitors, gorgeous spring sunshine overhead, and a very challenging, exciting course set by Martin Volken, the day was one of story-worthy proportions.  Here is a glimpse at the fun including footage of the mayhem at the beginning of the race due to near-bulletproof snow (I was, personally, happy to assist the junk show by sliding down the hill backwards. Thanks to my fellow competitor who’s foot acted as my breaks).  Thanks to The Snow Troopers for this sweet video.

Also, huge thank you to all the participants, spectators and volunteers who made this event a success and the post-race party such a good time.

Race results and photos can be found on our VertFest site.

Check out The Snow Troopers site for more videos, including posts from their current trip up in Alaska.

Hope to see you all out there next year for the 5th Annual VertFest,

Cheers,

Racer # 659, aka the turkey.
